Readers will be aware that I will go out of my way to attack Obama. I believe he has failed on most of his key promises. He promised change and brought continuity. He promised civil liberties and signed the PATRIOT Act, and the 2011 NDAA, assailing the 4th Amendment. He brought more Goldman Sachs insiders into his administration than any previous President. He continued George Bush’s destructive bailout programs that created zombie banks and huge moral hazard, and thus ruined American capitalism. He expanded the wars in the middle east into Pakistan and Yemen. He rejected a public option and instead concentrated on bringing Romneycare — a corporatist compromise — to the Federal level. He promised hope, but by the end of his third year in office Americans had to hope they wouldn’t be indefinitely detained without due process.
But there’s nothing like an insane neocon Obama-bashing diatribe to reassure me that if the choice is between Gingrich, Romney, Santorum and Obama, Obama is probably the lesser evil. Why? Obama, Panetta and Clinton seem the least hell-bent on attacking Iran and triggering a larger conflagration.

Andrew Adler, the owner and publisher of the Atlanta Jewish Times, a weekly newspaper serving Atlanta’s Jewish community, devoted his January 13, 2012 column to the thorny problem of the U.S. and Israel’s diverging views on the threat posed by Iran. Basically Israel has three options, he wrote: Strike Hezbollah and Hamas, strike Iran, or “order a hit” on Barack Obama. Either way, problem solved!
Here’s how Adler laid out “option three” in his list of scenarios facing Israeli president Benjamin Netanyahu:
“Three, give the go-ahead for U.S.-based Mossad agents to take out a president deemed unfriendly to Israel in order for the current vice president to take his place, and forcefully dictate that the United States’ policy includes its helping the Jewish state obliterate its enemies.”
Wow. Given that by my estimation Obama has been pretty friendly to Israel — increasing aid, failing to condemn Israel’s onslaught on Gaza, and even including an ex-IDF soldier, Rahm Emanuel, as his chief of staff — I wonder just how far he would have to go to earn Adler’s approval.
Unfortunately for Adler, I’m not entirely sure that encouraging the assassination of the Commander-in-Chief is a good idea when the President just signed a bill that allows for indefinite detention without due process.
Perhaps he thinks that that law is just for dirty Arabs?

Israeli public sentiment regarding Obama is very negative. They don’t think he’s tough enough on some of those Arab countries/governments, mainly Iran and Hamas/Hezbollah.
That’s interesting. Again, given that he’s increased aid to Israel, been relatively supportive of Israeli actions against Gaza, and has hardly been rougher than Bush on settlements I wonder what he’d have to do to win applause.
At the same time, I keep hearing from Mossad that Iranian nukes are no threat to Israel, and that the Israeli intelligence community broadly believes attacking Iran would be a bad idea for roughly the same reasons I do (dangers of provoking a wider war, and blowback).
I also think a lot of secular Jews (from personal experience) hold broadly progressive views toward Arab countries and would like to see less hostility and more trade and co-operation.
Is it just the ultra-orthodox and neo-cons that dislike Obama? Or does Israel really want an American President that will start another war in the middle east?
After all, it’s Israeli citizens much more than Americans that run the risks of blowback.
I’d say most citizens dislike Obama. I think he just gets a bad rap from his arabic ties and such. A lot of it also has to do with the media portraying him negatively (no surprise there).
Not even Stalin claimed authority to indefinitely detain without trail! At least they put on a good show trail back in the good old days.

This is just demented. Assassination of an ALLY as means to get him to cooperate more fully? There are no words for this kind of madness. Financing peaceful black PR campaign in the elections, while is still incomparable to assassination would already be well enough to cut all ties with culprit if it ever surfaced. What kind of alliance is it, if you literally backstab your partner? And now to try suggesting this kind of tactics to a country that actually gets 5% of it’s GDP in aid from it’s huge and more powerful ally and is surrounded by enemies?
I guess this must be some kind of isolated fool, after all it’s not printed in biggest paper in Israel, but some backwater Atlanta Jewish Times. Well in Poland we’ve got our fair share of idiots that get their stupidity published and it just doesn’t really matter. Written from frustrates to frustrates.
It’s absolutely absurd. I am 100% opposed to the curtailment of speech, but this is surely incitement and if the laws exist then surely they should be applied across the board. I hope this fellow is at least questioned by the FBI for his comments.
Well if the blacks in America don’t protest or lobby for this guy to be incarcerated under the new laws that their government graciously provided to protect them, then they are apathetic fools.
If the shoe was on the other foot, the Jewish lobby would be vociferous. For this they have my respect.

The Gangsters are in charge amongst the Jews, Christians, Muslims and secularists, each grouping needs to identify the crazies leading them and tell them to just stop, it will not be tolerated. If they want to play their childish games, gather them all put them somewhere they can harm each other and leave the rest of us alone.
If Israel takes up Mr. Adler’s insane suggestion and assassinates the President of the U.S., this middle-aged white man will join with the forces trying to wipe Israel off the map.
It would certainly destroy a lot of goodwill toward Israel from the American people.
